About Charlos &the
Love for Los Foundation
On the night of May 24, 2025, around 10 p.m., Charlos “Los” Bentley was loading up his truck with his family’s beach gear for a much-anticipated day at San Onofre when tragedy struck. A speeding sedan sideswiped the vehicle, hitting Charlos and leaving him critically injured on the pavement. The driver fled the scene but was later taken into custody and released on bail. His wife, Brooke, heard the crash from inside their home and rushed out to find him, immediately calling 911.
Since then, Charlos has been in the Surgical ICU, fighting everyday. He has suffered severe injuries — including brain bleeds, multiple broken bones, and fluid in his lungs — and remains in a coma, on mechanical ventilation. Right now, the greatest needs are for healing of his brain and deep rest as his medical team works tirelessly beside him.
Charlos is the sole provider for his family, and the road ahead is long. Doctors estimate that even in the best-case scenario, recovery from this kind of trauma will take at least 5–6 months — and that’s just the beginning.
From this unimaginable moment, something powerful has started to grow: The Love for Los Foundation.
What began as a way to support Charlos and the Bentley family in their time of need is evolving into a community-driven mission — a foundation built on love, unity, and the surf culture that has always embraced each other like family. The Love for Los Foundation is dedicated to walking alongside not only the Bentleys but also other surf families facing sudden, life-changing crises. Through faith, compassion, and collective strength, we aim to bring hope, healing, and practical support when it’s needed most.
LoveForLos Foundation
Born out of a community’s love and support for Charlos “Los” Bentley, the Love for Los Foundation was created to rally around families within the surf community facing unexpected medical crises, loss, or life-altering events.
While our current mission is to support Los and his family through a long road of recovery, our greater purpose is to grow into a foundation that reflects the strength, unity, and heart of the surf culture — a tribe that shows up for one another, rides the waves together, and never leaves anyone behind.
Rooted in the values of faith, family, and community, the Love for Los Foundation exists to raise awareness, mobilize support, and provide financial relief to surf families in need. Whether it’s through fundraising, prayer, events, or simply showing up, we believe in the power of people coming together to make a real difference.
This is more than a foundation — it’s a movement of love, grounded in purpose and built on the belief that no one should have to face hardship alone.
The Love for Los Foundation is still currently in the process of becoming an official nonprofit as there are many legal waves to surf. We’re incredibly grateful for your unwavering support and belief in this mission — and we look forward to all the good we’ll build together in the days ahead.
